Why Visit No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley?

No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is a renowned member of the LNER A4 Pacific class,
designed by the celebrated railway engineer Sir Nigel Gresley. Built in 1937 at the
London and North Eastern Railway’s (LNER) Doncaster Works, the locomotive was
one of 35 streamlined A4s designed for high-speed express services. Originally
entering service on the East Coast Main Line, No. 60007 quickly gained recognition
for its sleek, aerodynamic design, which was both visually striking and highly
functional, reducing air resistance and enabling exceptional performance.
The locomotive held a special place in British railway history, when it became
famous in 1959 for setting the post-war steam speed record of 112 mph during a test
run. After its retirement from British Rail in 1966, No. 60007 was saved by the A4
Locomotive Society and later became the flagship of the Sir Nigel Gresley
Locomotive Trust. Restored to full working order, it continues to captivate,
showcasing the elegance and engineering excellence of Britain’s golden age of
steam.
This special visit offers a rare opportunity to see No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley in
action, steaming along one of the UK’s most scenic heritage lines.
Step aboard a heritage train and enjoy the scenic journey from Pickering to
Grosmont through the breath-taking North York Moors, powered by the sleek No.
