The Museum’s architecture is unusual, making it one of the city’s most recognisable structures. Its exhibits, which originally opened as Ireland’s first County Museum in 1937, record centuries of tales about the people who lived, worked, and were linked to this renowned city and ancient county.
Military costumes, bridal gowns, pottery, natural history exhibits, and railway relics are on show. AE Russell, John Luke, and JB Vallely are among the well-known Irish painters represented in the outstanding art collection.
The Museum’s staff strives to make all visitors feel welcome and is available to answer any questions they may have. A large reference library, photographic and map collections, and a wealth of local historical information are all available. The Museum, which presents a variety of changing exhibits throughout the year, is an excellent starting point for visiting the lovely county of Armagh.
