Armagh Library transports you to the eighteenth century! After passing through the beautiful Georgian front entrance, make your way up to their exquisite staircase. This classical library’s Long Room, which serves as the main visiting area, is illuminated by beautiful windows. The walls are covered with rare and beautiful books from floor to ceiling.
Archbishop Richard Robinson founded their library in the heart of Armagh in 1771. He planned to make his own library and fine art collection available to the whole community.
Their one-of-a-kind collections are still accessible for study today.
The collection contains about 46,000 printed pieces. Among the subjects addressed are medicine, physics, history, law, politics, religion, and travel. Among the collections are ancient and mediaeval coins, commemorative medals, sulphur gems, prints, maps, and atlases, as well as manuscripts.
