Let them transport you back in time to the 19th Century where you can enjoy the flavours and smells from Christmas past. There will be refreshments on arrival from our costumed guides, before Captain Mummer interrupts the evening with his troop to entertain you!
Mumming has a long tradition in Britain and Ireland. Groups of people disguised in masks going from house to house allowed people from different social classes to mix more freely. The Mummers are active in early Winter, performing Christmas rhymes first published back in 1803 in Belfast. The tradition was strong in some parts of the North until the 1950s but it was kept alive in museums like ours and has been revived by community groups from the 1990s.
This is a unique and wonderful way to kick start the Christmas season in the equally unique setting of the Folk Park.
