The great waves of emigrants who left the shores of Ulster in the 18th and 19th centuries travelled with songs, stories, and memories that took root in communities throughout America. None more so than in the heartland of Appalachia, stretching from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.
The hymns and ballads of Appalachia, alongside influences from African-American blues and jazz, created the baseline for the evolution of bluegrass, old-time, Americana, and country, all of which are genres that strike a resonant chord within the depths of our DNA.
Set within the unique backdrop of the Ulster American Folk Park, the festival pays homage to the heritage and legacy of the Appalachian settlers. Not just through the musicianship, but through the hearty welcome, wholesome food, and artisan craftwork.
